Windows Vista/7/8 - Open a command prompt in a specific folder

Page 1 / 1

This little trick allows you to open a command prompt by placing you into a specific folder. This method only works on Windows Vista, 7 and 8.

To do this :
1) Go into a folder
2) Hold down the SHIFT key (the one with the arrow pointing up)
3) Right-click the folder in question
4) Click "Open Command Window Here".

And as you can see, the command prompt will automatically position itself in the desired folder.

On Windows 8, there is a second approach that has the advantage of being able to launch the command prompt as Administrator or not.
To do this :
1) Go into a folder
2) Go to "File" menu
3) Go to "Open Command Prompt"
4) Click "Open Command Prompt" or "Open a command prompt as administrator".
