Boot manager

Boot managers allow you to start quickly on :

  • a device : hard disk, CD/DVD drive, USB key, ...
  • a specific partition
  • an operating system (OS) previously installed on your computer

Some of the known startup managers include :

  • GNU Grub (GRand Unified Bootloader) which is used by default by Linux distributions
  • Grub4Dos which is used on some live CDs, including UBCD and HBCD (up to version 15.2)
  • syslinux which allows you to create a custom multiboot with several OS, live CD in iso format, ...
  • GAG which allows you to install a multiboot in just a few clicks with a graphical interface
  • PLOP Boot Manager : a very simple startup manager that allows you, for example, to boot on an USB key in a virtual machine
