SYSLINUX is a boot manager originally created for Linux operating systems that runs on MS-DOS/Windows FAT file systems.

SYSLINUX is very flexible and will allow you to create a multiboot on your computer and to be able to boot on any operating system (Windows, Linux, ...).

SYSLINUX can also create :

  • bootable floppy disks
  • bootable CD/DVD
  • and more

On the SYSLINUX website, you will also find projects derived from SYLINUX.
Among these related projects, you will find :

  • PXELINUX which is a derivative of SYSLINUX to create a multiboot to boot to files hosted on a remote TFTP server.
  • ISOLINUX which is a boot manager adapted to bootable CD/DVDs running with the ISO 9660/El Torito system in "no emulation" mode.
  • EXTLINUX which is a variant of SYSLINUX which allows you to boot from a Linux filesystem (ext2, ext3, ...).
  • MEMDISK which is a component used with SYSLINUX, PXELINUX, ... to start a computer on a bootable CD/DVD, bootable floppies, ...
