Plugins
When you surf on the web, you sometimes need a plugin to view some elements of the page, even if it tends to disappear in favor of HTML5.
For animations, online games and media players on websites, the Flash was often used, but now, Flash is no longer used on the web except for sites that offers Flash video games.
Plugins such as Java can also be used to create cross-platform programs (compatible with different operating systems such as : Windows, Linux and Mac OS X).
