Xooit also allows a domain (or subdomain if the domain belongs to you) for your free forum.

Xooit is similar to a host forumactif forums. It allows you to create your forum and unlimited size. The slight drawback is located at the address as it is not a "my_forum.com" address but "my_forum.a_domain_of_the_hoster.com". So your visitors know that you are in a free host and the disadvantage that some bored a lot.

However, Xooit created a function to use an external domain. You can, for example, have your site "my_website.com" (requires a web host like Lescigales.org (free) or LWS (paid)) as well as your forum "forum.mon_site.com".

If you want to use this feature and that you already have a domain. We mean this "my_website.com" and not "sub-domain.hoster.com". Then you can follow this tutorial.
Otherwise, you can buy a domain with a registrar such as OVH, LWS ... (preferably registered AFNIC, ICANN, ...).

Once you have a domain, login to your account with your registrar (the one that is in your area) and go in the management of DNS zones.
In this tutorial, we'll show host for "LWS.FR".
Log in to your LWS account, click on your domain -> Domain Management -> Manage DNS zone. You will arrive on this page.

To create the CNAME (or CNAME) entry, specify the following :
- Record Type : CNAME
- Enter the domain name : tutorial (sub domain redirect to the address of your forum)
- Enter the canonical name : rnd.xooit.net (whatever the address of your forum)
Then validate the configuration.

Note : If your domain is with another registrar, go to the official website of Registrar in question :
- hostgator.com
- OVH
- Gandi

What gives this.

Then go to the Xooit website (not on your forum) and click on "Member Area".

Then enter the address of your original forum (without http://). In our case : informatituto.xooit.be and the password that corresponds to it.

Then click on "Change your address" in the left menu.

Sélectionnez "Utiliser votre propre nom de domaine ou sous domaine" et indiquez votre adresse personnalisée. Dans notre cas : tuto.informatiweb.net.

Select "Use your own domain or subdomain" and enter your custom address. In our case : tuto.informatiweb.net.

If all goes well, the following message will appear : "Your forum has been renamed to regain access to the member area, do not forget to indicate the new address of your forum".

You can now access your forum via its personalized address. In our case : tuto.informatiweb.net.

If you're curious. Open the Web console present in the menu "Tools -> Web Developer" utility is accessed again and the old address of your forum (in our case : informatituto.xooit.be). You will see that all requests including a display including the following detail.
As you can see, Xooit create a 301 redirect automatically to your custom address unlike Forumactif who do not personal for external areas. This avoids the glad Google could detect duplicate. Google will thus replace the old address to your new forum and without that you do not lose your SEO.
