When, he display this message, press "ENTER".
The, the computer boot on the DVD "Windows Seven" and the installation window opens. Select the desired language and click "Next".
Click "Custom".
Now, select the partition 2 which corresponds to the partition "D" created under "Windows XP". Check the partition 2 is that for Windows Seven (the Total size is equal to the size of the free space). (This makes sense since it's empty)
The installation of "Windows Seven" begins ...
Once on the "Windows Seven" desktop, install your drivers (Motherboard, Graphics Card, Network Card, ...).
Having made the tutorial on a virtual machine to be able to make screenshots (in and out of Windows), the drivers are provided by the virtualization software (VirtualBox which is free).
Then, create the third partition (Partition 3 : Data exchange). To do this go to the start menu, right-click on Computer (which is equivalent to : My Computer in Win XP) and click "Manage".
In the window that opens, you can see the Windows XP partition that change letter ("C" to "D") to let "Windows Seven" take the letter "C" and thus avoid the problems of Microsoft multiboot.
To create the partition containing the data, we must first change the drive letter of the CD / DVD drive. To do this like in XP, right-click on the CD / DVD drive and click "Change drive letter and paths ...".
Click Edit.
Select another letter to release the letter "E".
Click "Yes".
Now, right click in "Unallocated" space of the hard disk and click "New simple volume ...".
Enter the desired data or leave the value to create the partition in ALL the remaining unallocated space size.
If you have released the letter "E", this letter should then appear automatically as the image below :
You can format the partition now or do it later but as long as the partition is not formatted, it's imposssible to store data because there is no file system created.
Now you may notice that we have our 3 partitions which I mentioned at the beginning of the tutorial.
Namely these :
- Partition 1 : Windows XP (letter "D")
- Partition 2 : Windows Seven (letter "C")
- Partition 3 : Data (This one, there will be no problem of rights because no OS will be over it. There will only your data) (letter "E")
