Pass the Ethernet network via the Coaxial cabling using the Hirschmann INCA 1G adapter

When your computer is near your box (or router), all you have to do is connect a network cable (with RJ45 sockets) so that you can access the network and the Internet.
However, if your computer is not in the same room as your box (or router), you will have to use another technique.

Among the existing techniques, there is of course Wi-Fi which allows you to connect to the network and the wireless Internet, but also PLC (Power-Line Communication) which allows you to pass the network via the power outlet.
Nevertheless, the Wi-Fi and the PLC may not be stable or of good quality depending on your home (thickness of the walls, poor quality electrical network, ...).

If you still have coaxial sockets at home (which allowed TV and radio signals to pass through in the past), you can pass the network (Ethernet) via the coaxial cables present in the walls of your house.
Thus, you will benefit from the quality of the copper wire that is there, as well as the shielding that is between the "plastic" sheath and the copper wire that is in the center.
By passing the network (Ethernet) via this coaxial cable, you will therefore obtain a stable 1 Gbit/s network (thanks to the adapter mentioned in this article) which will not be subject to interference.

Attention: according to our information, the company Hirschmann Multimedia has gone bankrupt. Hence the fact that the official website is inaccessible.

1. Unpacking the set of 2 network adapters via coaxial : Hirschmann INCA 1G white SET shop (ref 695020579)

To pass the network (ethernet) via the coaxial sockets of your home, you will need 2 adapters (ethernet - coaxial).
Note that you need 2 adapters and not just one :

  • the 1st adapter should be placed between your computer (which has an RJ45 connector for the network cable) and the coaxial socket on the wall of your home
  • the 2nd adapter should be placed between your modem or router (which also has RJ45 connectors for the network cable) and the coaxial socket on the wall of your home

In this article, we have therefore used the 2-piece set "gigabit internet over coax adapter" from Hirschmann Multimedia.
The reference for this 2-piece set at Hirschmann Multimedia is : INCA 1G white SET shop, 695020579.

1.1. Boxes present in the set of 2 network adapters via coaxial (ref 695020579)

Since this is a 2-piece set, you will see that it's simply a box containing 2 other boxes.

1.1.1. Box of the set of 2 network adapters via coaxial (ref 695020579)

To begin with, on the front of this box, you can see that it's a gigabit internet over coax adapter (or rather 2 gigabit internet over coax adapters).
You will also see that this box contains 2 pieces.

At the bottom right, it says that these network adapters are compatible with :

  • fiber optic and DSL (in other words : your Internet signal)
  • cable television

On one side of the box, you will see that this kit contains :

  • 2 gigabit internet over coax adapters in white color
  • 2 USB cables (micro USB to USB)
  • 2 UTP cables (standard network cables with RJ45 plugs)
  • 2 coaxial cables of 75 cm each
  • 2 user manuals (identical)

Note : the QR code displayed on the box gives you direct access to the details of this 2-piece set on the official Hirschmann Multimedia website.

At the back of the box, Hischmann Multimedia explains very simply that this set of 2 gigabit network adapters via coaxial allows you to easily connect an Internet connection via the existing coaxial cabling in your home.
They also explain to you that the Internet connection passes through the data port (UTP port = RJ45 connector) and that this adapter is supplied with electricity through a micro USB port present on it.
You will also find 2 micro USB to USB cables allowing you to power your 2 network adapters using the USB port of your computer (for one network adapter) or that of your modem (for the other network adapter).

The "www.montagefilm.net" website indicated at the end of the description of this adapter will allow you to access several videos explaining how to strip a coaxial cable (for example).

On the other side of the box, you will see that these adapters :

  • allow you to obtain a gigabit Internet network connection (if your network equipment supports it, which should currently be the case)
  • are easy to install
  • that they are compatible with the MoCa (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) 2.0 standard which defines the specifications of a network via coaxial cable

Below the box, you will mainly find :

  • the name of the product (the set of 2 pieces) : INCA 1G white SET
  • its reference : 695020579
  • its EAN code (barcode) : 8719632680000
  • its version : V21.0

As you can see, inside this box, you will find 2 small identical boxes.

As expected, these are the 2 gigabit network adapters via coax.

1.1.2. Boxes of network adapters via coaxial (ref 695020564)

The 2 boxes present in the set are simply 2 boxes of another Hirschmann Multimedia product : INCA 1G white shop, 695020564.
On the page of this product, you will also find a link to its user manual (which also contains a wiring diagram) : 695020564 INCA 1G white FRENCH manual v18.1.pdf.

Note : if the set whose reference is "695020579" is not available at your usual retailer, you can therefore buy 2 pieces of the reference "695020564" without any problem.
It won't change anything.

On the front of these 2 boxes, you will see again that it's a gigabit internet over coax adapter.

On the side, you will find the same information, plus an indication of the good quality of this product.

At the back of each of these boxes, you will again see that these adapters allow you to pass an Internet connection via the existing coaxial cabling of your home.

On the side, you will see again that each of these boxes contains :

  • an UTP cable (network cable)
  • a coaxial cable
  • a micro USB cable (micro USB on one side for the network adapter and USB on the other side for the power supply)
  • a manual

Note : the QR code displayed on these boxes will redirect you to the review of this network adapter (and not the review of the 2-piece set) on the official Hirschmann Multimedia website.

Below the box, you will mainly find :

  • the name of the product (the network adapter via coaxial) : INCA 1G white shop
  • its reference : 695020564
  • its EAN code (barcode) : 8719632680123
  • its version : V20.0

Inside each of these boxes, you will find a network adapter via coaxial, as well as the necessary cables mentioned on the side of the boxes.

In each of these boxes, you will also find the instructions for use of this product.

1.2. Components supplied for each network adapter via coaxial (ref 695020564)

In each network via coaxial adapter box (ref 695020564), you will find the network via coaxial adapter from Hirschmann Multimedia.

On the back of these adapters you will find :

  • the name of this network adapter : INCA 1G WHITE.
  • its description : Gigabit Internet over coaxadapter.
  • its reference : 695020564.
  • the frequency range used for the "CATV" mode (Freq. Range CATV) : 5-1250 MHz.
  • the frequency range used for the "MoCA" mode (Freq. Range MoCA) = network via coaxial cable : 1350-1675 MHz.
  • the bandwidth of the MoCA channel (CH. Bar) : 50/100 MHz.
  • the network bandwidth (Throughput) : Max 1 Gbps.
  • the power supply needed for the adapter (Power) : 5 VDC, < 3W.
  • its compatibility with the MoCA standard : compatible with MoCA 1.1 and 2.0.
  • on the right you will also see the MAC address of this network adapter. The MAC identifier "00:1A:7C:xx:xx:xx" corresponds to the "Hirschmann Multimedia B.V." company.
However, it will not be visible on your Ethernet network (whether on your computer, your Box or your router).

On the left side, you will see :

  • Micro USB 5 VDC : the 5 VDC micro USB connector is used to supply the adapter with 5 volts (V) in direct current (DC).
  • Eth. Link/act. : this LED indicates if the network link is established (created), then will flash depending on the use of the network via this network adapter.
  • Power : this LED indicates whether this adapter is powered or not.
  • MoCA link : indicates whether the MoCA link is established (created) or not. When the 2 adapters are correctly wired and powered, this LED should light up.

On the right side you will see :

  • CATV + MoCA : this coaxial socket can pass the signal from your TV (CATV), as well as your Ethernet network and the Internet.
  • CATV : this coaxial socket only allows you to pass the signal from your TV (CATV).

As you can see, the 2 coaxial sockets on the right side of the Hirschmann Multimedia network adapter are different :

  • the "CATV + MoCA" socket on the top is a female socket
  • the "CATV" socket at the bottom is a male socket

On the other side, you will find the network connector (RJ45) on the left and the power connector (micro USB) on the right.

In each small box, you will find a power cable with :

  • a micro USB connector to plug into your Hirschmann network adapter
  • an USB connector to plug into your computer or modem (depending on which side you are on)

You will also find one coaxial cable per box that looks like this.

As you can see, this coaxial cable has :

  • on the left, a female socket
  • on the right, a male socket

Finally, you will also find a network cable (also called "UTP cable" in technical terms) with RJ45 connectors (which is standard).

If you look at this cable, you will see that it's a category 5E cable which allows a transfer rate of 1 Gbit/s (which is also possible with the network adapter from Hirschmann.
