3.4. Target official download platforms

3.4.1. Download platform: Rockstar Social Club and Steam

For GTA V (above), you saw that the target platform was always "Rockstar Social Club".
However, depending on the game chosen, the target platforms can change (although Steam is more common since it's a third-party platform, not a proprietary one like EA or Uplay) and can be multiple.

For this example, we chose GTA 4 (instead of GTA 5).

Right below the title "The best deals for Grand Theft Auto 4", you can see that 2 platforms (Steam / Rockstar Social Club) appear.

In the list of offers displayed, you will find at least one offer for each of the platforms shown at the top.
For GTA 4, you can currently see that this game is available (as a CD key in this case) for two official game download platforms: Rockstar Social Club and Steam.

For example, there is an offer from GAMESEAL at €6.83 for this game "GTA 4" where the CD key will have to be activated on Rockstar Social Club.

Kinguin also offers GTA 4 for €7.00, where the CD key will need to be activated on Steam.

Either you're simply looking for the lowest price, and this information helps you activate the game on the platform you purchased the CD key for.
Or you're very attached to a specific platform (for example, Steam, which isn't exclusive to certain games and where you might have all your gamer friends), and in that case, you're looking for the best deal for the game you want, making sure the key will work on your preferred platform (even if it means sacrificing the absolute lowest price, but still getting a lower price than on the official platform).

3.4.2. Download platform: EA (Origin) and Steam

Depending on the publisher of your video game, you'll notice that the proprietary platform may vary, but the universal platform (Steam in particular) will also be more often available.
Of course, the price can vary from one platform to another.

If you choose a racing game from the "Need For Speed" series, published by Electronic Arts, you'll notice that the "EA App" platform (formerly "Origin") will appear.

Just below the title "The best deals for Need For Speed...", you will see the "Steam" and "EA App" platforms.

In the list of available offers, you can see that there are deals for EA and others for Steam.
Again, if you don't limit yourself to a single platform, you can get a better price than if you limit yourself to just one.

If we select the GAMESEAL offer targeting the "Steam" platform (Europe), you can see that this CD key will need to be activated on Steam and in this case, the CD key is limited to the Europe region.

For this same game, you can see that there are other CD key offers where the key will need to be activated on "EA App" (the replacement for Origin).

3.4.3. Download platform: Ubisoft Connect (Uplay) and Steam

To use the same principle, if you choose a game from the "TrackMania" series, whose publisher is therefore "nadeo", you will notice that the proprietary platform is "Ubisoft Connect" (formerly "Uplay") this time.

Again, you can see that the "Steam" platform is available again, but the proprietary platform available is "Ubisoft Connect" (Uplay) this time.

If you choose one of these offers, you will see that the comparator specifies that the CD key will need to be activated on Uplay (Ubisoft Connect).

3.5. Geographic restrictions for boxed versions

As with CD keys (mostly available for PC games and some Xbox games), boxed versions can also be subject to geographical restrictions.
This is notably the case for TrackMania Turbo for PS4, where the boxed version is only available in France (at least for the offers currently available).
Indeed, under the box icon, it clearly states "France" (in this case).

If you choose one of these offers, you will see that this CD key (or rather this game) must be activated on PlayStation 4 (given that we selected the "PS4" option above the list) and that it is limited to the "France" region (in this case).

3.6. Game information and gaming news

For each game, you will have information about:

• its genre (action, adventure, ...).
• the publisher (Rockstar Games, Electronic Arts, Nadeo, ...).
• the developer.
• its release date and the minimum or recommended system requirements for the PC version.
• the user rating.
• and more.

At the bottom right of the page, you'll see the latest gaming news and deals (also accessible via the "News" section in the top right of the site).

Important : at the bottom of the page, you'll see that you're currently viewing the French version (meaning the offers are valid in France).
If you're in another country, select your country from the list or choose a country similar to yours (especially for the language used), then pay attention to the restrictions displayed on the offers (usually: Europe, Rest of the World).

In the links at the bottom, you can consult the FAQ, which will answer your most common questions about this comparison tool.

Important : no account is required on this comparison tool, and this tool doesn't sell anything.
It simply lists interesting, even very interesting, offers from partner retailers.
Therefore, you will always purchase your games, prepaid cards (gift cards), software, etc., from the partner retailers and not from this "dLcompare" comparison tool.

In this FAQ, you'll see that the featured merchants (displayed in the top right corner of each product page for games, prepaid cards, software, ...) are partner merchants that dLcompare has worked with for over 6 months and are therefore recommended (if you're worried about being scammed).
dLcompare assures you that these featured merchants are the most reliable.

In this FAQ, you'll also find a question about geographical (or regional) restrictions.
As this comparison tool indicates, if you see a price for a specific product, it means you should be able to activate it in your country (region).
The comparison tool is supposed to display only offers available in your country.

That said, if you live in Belgium or another French-speaking country, remember that "France" is displayed at the top and bottom of this "dLcompare" comparison tool when you access it using the "dlcompare.fr" domain.
However, there are many offers where "Europe" is usually indicated as a restriction, or offers where there is no restriction (displayed on the comparison tool, so check before purchasing on the merchant's website).
