To block access to a website via Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) web filtering, click the "Settings" button.
At the very bottom of the "Active Protection" tab of this protection settings, you will find a "Web Filtering" section which is enabled by default and already protects you against malware and fake sites (phishing).
For the example, we will use the "Qwant" search engine which you must have access to at the moment.
To block access to this website, click on the "Manage exceptions" button of this web filtering.
In the "Web Filtering Exceptions" window that appears, click the "Add URL" button.
In the small window that appears:
In our case, to block access to the Qwant site, we must therefore indicate:
Then, click on "Add a URL".
This will block all web requests to http(s)://*.qwant.com/* (where "*" means any character).
The blocked domain (in our case: qwant.com) and the access type (in our case: Blocked) appear in the list.
In addition, the message below appears.
Plain Text
The domain "qwant.com" is now blocked and its access will be restricted. Only domains can be added to the exceptions.
If you try to access the HTTPS website that you just blocked, you will see that you no longer have access to it and that your web browser will probably display an error due to a secure connection problem.
Note: this is normal, because the HTTPS protocol (secured via TCP port 443) needs the HTTP protocol (unsecured via TCP port 80) to work.
Indeed, to establish a secure connection to a website accessible via the HTTPS protocol, your web browser must first exchange keys (part of an SSL certificate) to encrypt the following exchanges via the HTTPS protocol.
If the HTTP protocol (via TCP port 80) is not available, then the HTTPS protocol cannot work. Hence this secure connection error.
For the "PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR" error, this means that Mozilla Firefox has not found any cipher suites to use to securely connect to this website.
Which makes sense since Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) blocks the connection between your computer and the remote server.

At the bottom right of your screen, you will also see a "Malicious Website Blocked" notification appear allowing you to continue blocking access to this website or allow it to disable this blocking.
To demonstrate the blocking of an unsecured website accessible only in HTTP, we used a local web server (because the majority of websites are currently secured in HTTPS, notably thanks to web browsers and Google which have forced webmasters to secure access to their website).
In case of a (non-secure) website accessible only in HTTP, you will see an error page "URL is blocked!" appear with the message "Blocked by Acronis".
