Search for files in a backup (.tibx) using Acronis True Image (Cyber Protect Home Office)

When you back up your computer with Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image), you can easily search for and restore specific files from your backup without necessarily having to restore your entire computer from it.
This can be useful in case of a problem with a specific program or when you accidentally delete a file that was already present in previous backups.

Please note that Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) must be installed on your computer to be able to open the ".tibx" file corresponding to your computer backups.

  1. Search for files in your Acronis backup from Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image)
  2. Browse your Acronis backup folders from Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image)
  3. Browse your Acronis backup folders from file explorer

1. Search for files in your Acronis backup from Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image)

The easiest and fastest way to find a file in the different versions of your backup (without having to go through them all manually) is to click on the arrow to the right of your backup, then on: Search in files.

You will automatically arrive in the "Restore -> Files" tab and the search box will appear.
Note that, by default, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) will search in the 1st partition of the backup concerned.
So, probably the "C:" partition which corresponds to the partition containing Windows, installed programs and users' personal files.

Type part of the name of the file you are looking for and press "Enter".

Wait while searching for the corresponding files.
Note that Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) searches in all versions of your backup.
Which is very convenient, because the file you are looking for may very well be only in some versions and not necessarily in the latest version of your backup.

The found files will appear and you will be able to see the path, the version they are in, and their date.
Note that you can change the source version for the recovery of these files.
This can be useful if this file has been modified between different versions of this backup.

Select the files to restore and click "Next".
In our case, the 1st ISO file "Windows 10 - 2104 x64 ...".

As you can see, by default, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) will restore the desired files to the original folder.
If you want to restore it somewhere else, click the "Browse" link.

Plain Text

Restore to: Original location.

Select the destination folder where you want to restore the desired files, then click OK.
In our case, our personal "Documents" folder.

Now, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) displays the selected folder path as the destination folder.
Click the "Restore" button.

Plain Text

Restore to : C:\Users\InformatiWeb\Documents\

Please wait while the desired files are restored.

Once the restoration of the desired files is complete, the message "Restore completed successfully" will be displayed in the "Backup" tab.

In the "Activity" tab, you will see the message "Restore successful to [desired folder path]" appear with:

  • Data Recovered: the size of the data recovered since your backup.
  • Files Recovered: the number of files restored since your backup.
  • Elapsed Time: the time it took to recover them.

As expected, we find our ISO file restored from our Acronis backup.
