Create backups and authenticate your files (on Acronis Cloud) using Acronis True Image (Cyber Protect Home Office) to verify their authenticity

With a Premium subscription to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image), you can back up folders and/or files by authenticating them using blockchain to ensure that those in your backups have not been manually altered (modified).
Previously, we showed you how to back up a folder to your external hard drive by authenticating the files on it: Acronis True Image - Create backups and authenticate your files.
However, it is also possible to use this feature if you back up a folder or files to Acronis Cloud (with an Acronis Cloud subscription).

  1. Acronis Cloud subscription required
  2. Configure backup to Acronis Cloud to authenticate your files via blockchain
  3. Backup and authenticate the folder to backup to Acronis Cloud
  4. Check the authenticity of a file backed up to Acronis Cloud from Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image)
  5. Check the authenticity of a file backed up to Acronis Cloud from Acronis Cloud
    1. Access the backup on Acronis Cloud and browse its folders
    2. Get the certificate of a file from a backup stored on Acronis Cloud

1. Acronis Cloud subscription required

In our case, we activated the 1-month free trial with 1TB to Acronis Cloud from the "Account" section of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image).

2. Configure backup to Acronis Cloud to authenticate your files via blockchain

Once you have access to Acronis Cloud with your current Acronis account, go to the "Backup" section of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image).
Then, click on the left rectangle to change the backup source (which by default is your entire PC).

In the "Backup source" list, click "Files to authenticate".

Important : as you can see, this is a "Premium" feature.
Hence the need to purchase a Premium subscription to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) to be able to use this feature.
In our case, we have access to it thanks to the 30-day trial period of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image).

Check the box of the folder(s) you want to back up via Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (True Image) by authenticating them to ensure that the files in your backup cannot be altered manually.
If they are altered anyway, by malware for example, then the authenticity check will fail and you will know that the file has been modified in the meantime.

In our case, we have chosen to back up our "Downloads" folder (which is an alias of the real "Downloads" folder present in the file system).

Once the desired folder(s) are selected, click OK.

As you can see, the source image contains a medal, which indicates that certificates will be used.

Now, click on the right rectangle to change the destination of your backup.

In the "Backup destination" list that appears, click "Acronis Cloud".

That's it, the backup is configured.

3. Backup and authenticate the folder to backup to Acronis Cloud

Start backing up the desired folder to Acronis Cloud and authenticating the desired files by clicking the "Backup" button.

Please wait while the desired folder is backed up to Acronis Cloud.

Once the backup is complete, you will see the message "Last backup: today at ..." appear, along with the status "Compliant certification in progress".

In the "Activity" tab, you will see the message "Backup completed successfully" appear.

If you close the program and open it again, you will see the green icon appear in the center, along with the message about the files that will be authenticated by Acronis Notary.

If you click on the cross to the right of this message, you will have access to the link "Open File Verification Tool" which allows you to access the Acronis "Notary Console" site.
However, this tool is mainly useful with a local backup.
