Virtualize a physical PC to VMware ESXi (P2V) using Acronis True Image (Cyber ​​Protect Home Office) and Acronis Universal Restore

For each partition, you will need to click on the "New Location" link (visible at the top right), then select the unallocated space on Disk 1 and click "Accept".

Once the destination is selected for this 1st partition to restore, you will see that its size is only 100 MB (in this case).
Which corresponds to the small system partition "EFI System Partition" of Windows 10.

Click "Next".

For restoring "Partition C", click "New Location" again.

This time, since it is a large partition, the message "Scanning partition ''C'' in progress" will appear for several seconds.

Then, the "Partition Destination" window will appear.
Again, select the "Unallocated" space of "Disk 1" and click "Accept".

Warning : since this was a large partition on the physical PC hard drive backed up via Acronis, Acronis will try to use too much disk space or all the remaining disk space on your virtual hard drive. This will obviously cause problems when restoring data from other partitions of the disk present in your Acronis backup.
To fix this, click the "Change default" link (located on the right).

Change the partition size that will be used on your virtual hard disk and click "Accept".

In our case, we have indicated "80 GB" for the "C" partition, knowing that our virtual hard disk has a capacity of 120 GB.

As you can see, the partition size has been changed (for restoring this partition to your VM's virtual hard disk).
Which will leave enough free space (in our case: about 40 GB) on your virtual hard disk.

Click "Next".

For the next partition to be restored (Partition 1-4), click the "New Location" link again, then select the "Unallocated" space of Disk 1 and click "Accept".

As you can see, it is a small partition (in our case 536 MB).
So you can click "Next" leaving the default size.

Note: this is the Windows 10 recovery partition.

For partition "D", click "New Location" again.
Then, select the "Unallocated" space of disk 1 as the destination again and click "Accept".

Since this is again a large partition, Acronis will use all the remaining disk space on your virtual hard disk.
However, since this is the last partition to be restored, this is not a problem.

So in our case, it will be about 40 GB in size.

Select Disk 1 (which is your VM's VMware virtual hard disk) and check the "Restore disk signature" box.

When restoring a Windows backup with Acronis, it is important to check the "Restore disk signature" option for several reasons:

• Acronis Task Recovery: this option allows Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office to recover its tasks on the restored PC.
• License Preservation: some applications link their licenses to the disk signature.
• Restore Point Preservation: Windows restore points remain usable after the restore.
• VSS Compatibility: facilitates the use of VSS snapshots, especially for the "Previous Versions" feature of Windows 7 and Vista.

In the summary of this restore wizard, you will see that your partitions will be restored with the same or different sizes (if you changed them to fit the size of your virtual hard disk) and that the MBR (which corresponds to the "Track 0" visible in the wizard) will also be restored on your virtual hard disk.

Click "Run" to start restoring your partitions on your virtual hard disk.

Please wait while data is restored.

Once the restore is complete, the message "Restore operation successful" will appear.
Click OK.

Shut down your virtual machine using the "Power Off" option in the VMware ESXi web interface.

Ignore the warning that appears by clicking "Yes".

Your virtual machine is powered off.
