Windows 8 is the successor of Windows 7, and was created to be multiplatform.
This means that you will find Windows 8 on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Since Windows 8, start menu has disappeared and has been replaced by a touch interface with tiles. This interface was named "Metro Interface", but was later renamed "Modern UI".

Then, his user interface looks like that of Windows 7, except that transparency (Aero) no longer exists in this version.

For the compatibility with video games, some older games that still running on Windows 7 may no longer work with Windows 8 or 8.1. (Eg SimCity 4).

In the file explorer, you'll find the same functionality as Windows 7 with an integration with onedrive (online file storage service created by Microsoft).
Then, Windows 8 adds the native support for mounting VHD files (hard disks files) and ISO files.
Note that the majority of people already using daemontools to mount iso files in a virtual drive created by this program.
